Tony Cotter - Chief Executive

Tony joined Thamesmead Town in 1996 as Housing Services Director. He led much of the work on the de-merger of Thamesmead Town and the creation of a new landlord, Gallions Housing Association. He became Chief Executive of the successor body in May 2000.

In 1992 he joined the public sector housing group of Coopers & Lybrand as a senior management consultant and worked with a vast range of local authorities and housing associations.  He led much of the practice’s work on stock transfer, CCT and strategy.

Tony has spent his entire career working in the social housing sector, initially in local government.  Rising through the ranks at different boroughs, Tony’s highest position was achieved at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council where he became Chief Housing Officer. In 1991 he was instrumental in transferring the Council’s housing stock to a newly created Large Scale Voluntary Transfer Organisation.

Tony is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and is currently Chairman of the Research and Exchange Group (REX) - a group of European Housing Associations that meet regularly to discuss policy and other issues.  He has also established closer working ties with not-for-profit landlords in the USA through the Housing Partnership Network.

Tony was a founder member of Quality Housing Services - now a well established and successful quality accreditation system in the social housing sector.
